Konohgakure no sato, or Village Hidden in the Leaves, was named as such not just becuase many of the buildings seem to have a plant-like substance forming their very walls. A large, abundant forest surrounds the village on all sides, stretching almost completely from the Valley of the End to the small mountain range that Konoha is found nearby .

A single, well worn main path sometimes attracts bandits, but if one takes this road carefully, they will find that the odds of getting attacked by the various beasts in the forest are noteably minimized. Since this path is well travelled, it usually leads straight to Konohgakure, and following it strictly during the daytime is crucial to those who do not want to quickly become lost in this tanlged web of trees, who's very canopies shade the ground below. The air is suprirsingly cool though, as the sun's rays are mostly blocked by the tall trees.

This forest's origins are unclear, however, considering that Konohagakure has a map of practically every inch of it, it is probable that large portions of it were created by powerful Mokuton users during the founding days of Konoha. As a result, this forest has stood a long time, and has naturally expanded beyond the original construction. It is rumored that the Forest of Death was created in a replica of this green defense.

Although the particlarly animal life varies, there are clearings here and there in the forest, some of them quite delibrate, others natural, and others from the various battles that have taken place over the years. Some of these clearings seem as if they are already beginning to rejoin the forest; others are clearly going to be clearings for quite a while longer. Underground passengeways are also rumored to litter the forest, primarily used by Leaf shinobi who want a way to travel through the forest quickly, and without being seen during times of siege and invasions. While most of these tunnels have caved in on themselves, there are a few still standing, particularly ones leading towards a large building that was once a base for an organization that seems to be long gone...

Eventually the winding main path leads towards the sudden opening of a clearing, the bright sunlight surprising anyone who had been in the forest for an extended amount of time. And behold, before them were the very gates of Konoha, the high walls presenting refuge and shelter from the harsh and sometimes deadly environment that the true forest of death holds...
